School visit - Bright P-12 College

The Periodic Table of Sustainable Elements chemistry outreach program travelled today to Bright P-12 College.

80+ students from both year 6 and 8 undertook each of the chemistry activities, led by a group of fantastic year 11 Chemistry student leaders, We were inside the Bright P-12 College Gym, and with the constant rain on the galvanised iron roof (good use of zinc!), and sometimes also a sport class skipping rope (!), it was near impossible to hear each other, but the spectacle of the chemistry shone through and brightened many a student face.

It was a special joy as well to see the year 11 student leaders lead and support their younger colleagues, and to discuss with them their hopes for further chemistry study (though many a discussion was also about next week’s Katy Perry concert in Bright).

A special thank you to Phillip Rigby, Esther Dudley and Libby Dean who made the experience possible on behalf of her school. We will keep doing this outreach program for as long as we can find amazing schools like Bright P-12 College!

Once again, a big thank you to our Deakin Uni student volunteers who make this outreach program possible!
